South of Second Mesa, in the Hopi Nation, I saw this feature from the road and drove closer to it on a dirt road. It stands in what is otherwise a fairly flat plain, but proved more interesting to me for its archeology than the geology which had attracted my attention.
What appear to be light-colored small rocks on the slope are actually pottery shards. I suspect it was a site of spiritual significance to the Hopi. My guess is that looters have made off with any intact pottery, but that doesn't explain the presence of the broken remnants scattered about the site.
