Ouray (pronounced Oh-ray) is tucked away in the mountains much as Aspen is, but the two places are worlds apart. Despite a lot of tourist-oriented shops Ouray has managed to retain much of its original character. That may be because it lacks world-class skiing and it has much less open land around it. The wealthy and pretentious will have to settle for flying into Aspen and Telluride for their thrills and faux surroundings--Ouray doesn't have room for them, much to my pleasure.
