Nicodemus National Historic Site, Kansas

I found Nicodemus, Kansas, to be a fascinating place. As is often the case with me, I thought I would drop in, take in a little history and be down the road somewhere at day's end. As it turned out I would end up spending the night here at the rest area adjacent to the visitor's center. Not that I didn't look elsewhere--I backtracked 10 miles to Webster State Park, but with the budget cutback to the state parks, it didn't make sense to spend $13.50 for no more amenities (non-functioning showers) than I could have at the rest area for free.

Rather than me trying to explain what Nicodemus is all about, it might be best for you to visit the National Park Service Website here: Nicodemus Suffice it to say I was impressed with the spirit and courage I found here.
